Hello from Firefly Cove

To that end, I am wanting to urge all of us to pull together and to reach inside and find that spirit of optimism that quite possibly we have forgotten about, or that has been so beat up that we are not remembering. We can rise above all of this, and our best weapon is to believe that we can.

We have continued to market Firefly Cove throughout the winter and remain optimistic. I am astounded at the numbers of potential clients that we have had visiting the property and that have booked weekend trips to visit. Many of these are clients that we have been working with for some time now, which gives us an even better feeling about their interest in the area. We are doing a large direct mail campaign in the next month and feel really great about the informational piece we have prepared for the mailing.
Perhaps others of you may want to join in with this idea. What if some local restaurants offered discounts on a certain day of the week for the locals? Or, if retail merchants sent out some discount coupons for the locals? Or if every other week we picked a place for us all to just gather after work to chat and network? We could simply pick a place that serves the public each Friday for a cash bar gathering for anyone who wants to drop by. I am happy for us to utilize Firefly Cove for that, but we need to figure out how to share in the costs. Is there such a thing as a carry in cocktail party?

I guess the point I would like to make is that we band together in a positive fashion, supporting each other, looking for positive things.   We all need to hear about optimism and success as they come our way so that we can re-energize ourselves and remember our previous successes.

I know that all of us have been facing our individual challenges of late – I don’t think that any one of us is exempt. However, I truly believe that we are seeing signs of some sort of a recovery. Housing sales and starts are up, banks are claiming to be making money again, and the stock market is showing signs of some optimism.

Quite frankly, optimism is going to be what creates a recovery, not money from the Treasury. The money from the Treasury is what may help us to believe and be optimistic, but there is more money sitting in cash, than there is in mutual funds these days. So, just a little optimism and a lot can happen.

We want to do everything that we can to help you do your job. To that end, we want to invite you to utilize the facility at Firefly Cove if it will help you. We have a wonderful lodge and gathering room available for you to use. So, if you want to have a meeting with your staff, feel free to come over and use our space. Often, getting people out of the office is a better way to get their full attention.

We have a wonderful amphitheatre and pavilion dock facility. You are welcome to utilize them for the same purpose, or even for a wedding or cook out.

Our goal is to do everything that we can to foster an upbeat and optimistic start to 2009. I think that if we all continue to lift each other up and remain upbeat that we will all get to our own goal lines sooner.
Please feel free to send me your ideas, or better still, act on your own ideas. My only request is that they all be positive. We certainly have a ton of things to worry about in our community, and they will get taken care of in good time, but right now we need to be optimistic and get “some wind in our sails” again.

Please put your optimistic thinking cap on and start to act on your own ideas, or send them along to us. We have a pretty good e-mail list of Lake Lure people and can use the list to send along ideas, or meetings – just send them to me.
